Toten lies just over an hour's drive north of Oslo. You can either take the E6 highway to Minnesund, followed by Rv. 33 along Lake Mjøsa, or take the Rv. 4 the whole way.
It encompasses some of the richest agricultural land in eastern Norway, and is situated about half way between Oslo and the Olympic city of Lillehammer. Toten comprises the municipalities of Østre (east) and Vestre (west) Toten.
Østre Toten is primarily and agricultural municipality. It has approx. 14.650 inhabitants, and its administrative centre is Lena.
The Toten countryside is perfect for outdoor activites and exploring the cultural landscape, with Lake Mjøsa, the villages and the hills providing a varied backdrop. The area is ideal for walking, cycling, swimming, hunting and fishing. During the winter there are miles and miles of groomed cross-country skiing trails just waiting to be discovered.
