Municipal services:

A municipality is a complex organization with many different tasks.

A municipality attends to welfare-related tasks where people live, and it is here that residents should feel a sense of belonging. In addition to being a welfare producer, a municipality should also be an active community developer.

Elected officials have the overall management and decision-making responsibility in the community. This means an overall responsibility for results, and the responsibility of organizing the municipality as appropriately as possible with regard to the development of local democracy, a comprehensive community development and best possible production of services for local inhabitants.

The main service areas are:

  • Children, youth, education (kindergarten, primary and adult education)
  • Health, health care services, welfare

Quality of life at the lake

Our slogan is "Close enough, and far enough away." Our vision is "Quality of life near Lake Mjøsa." Eastern
Toten is the place for those who want to stay rural, yet central to job opportunities and
diverse cultural and outdoor recreational activities.

Here you will have good prospects for a high quality of life, short distance to urban areas and a varied supply of interesting jobs. Would you like to establish your own business/place of work, all for a relatively low cost? Then Eastern Toten should be an exciting option, where we are constantly developing new and diverse housing options - in urban or residential groups in the beautiful countryside.

No matter where you live in the community, you will have a maximum 15 minute drive to the community centre in Lena.

Proactive municipality

Eastern Toten, one of the country's largest agricultural communities, wants to be a proactive municipality which is able to take advantage of its natural assets and varied expertise to enhance the creation of value. New industries are experiencing growth, the creative and successful environment in Kapp business park being a good example. Eastern Toten is part of Gjøvik region, which also comprises the municipalities Western Toten, Gjøvik, Søndre Land and Nordre Land. The region has the country's largest industrial environment in the industrial park of Raufoss.

Leisure

Eastern Toten offers an extremely varied and diverse leisure opportunity. We have about 150 active volunteer associations, from a full range of sports to art and music, to more traditional associations such as Scouts, gardening association, and so on. There are several youth clubs in the district. The Cultural School Milk Factory has a student body of nearly 400 children and young people, who get weekly instruction in music, visual arts, dance and theatre. The municipality has been named as Cultural School Municipality of the Year. There is a wide range of sports in Eastern Toten, including baseball, football, skiing, skating, orienteering, gymnastics and equestrian.

Outdoors

Opportunities for outdoor recreation are great, including beach roads along Lake Mjøsa, a 60 km long pilgrim trail and good opportunities for swimming and fishing at the lake. There are several good map of hiking areas, and miles of hiking trails are signposted on Totenåsen.
